The Dark Asha

4/5
I have recently finished reading a young adult fantasy book called The Bone Witch, which was written by Rin Chupeco. The book is about Tea who is different the her older witch sisters, she is a bone Witch. After Tea finds out about her brother, Fox, unfortunate death she doesn’t exactly feel like it happened. During the funeral she accidental raises her brother from the dead. Tea uses tons of her energy to raise Fox from the dead so she is unconscious for a while, which gives another dark asha some time to come get her. When Tea awakens she is greeted by her family and this other asha who plans to take Tea as an apprentice. This begins her journey to become a fully trained dark asha. Being a dark asha has some tough times for Tea because they are hated since they are involved with the dead and Tea got familiar early on even before training (Her brother Fox). Read to find about how Tea learns to handle being judged but also having a great destiny.

The other part of this book takes place in a future time were  Tea is already 17 and has been forced to live on a island because of something she did. We find out that she doesn’t kill deavea but instead takes them On has familiars. This horrid monsters have killed thousands, even her own brother was killed by one, yet she realized something that others haven’t, they are just defending them selfs. In reality the person who found Tea sees that these supposed horrid creatures act like any normal pet. Tea is planning something with these risen creatures, but you have to find out by reading.

(Possible Spoilers Read At Your Own Risk)

In my opinion the author had an amazing idea for a book and had parts of that in there, but there was a little to much explaining and detail that it was hard to keep reading at times. Towards the middle of the book I had gotten bored but continued to read for the sake I really love the idea of this book. It shocked me how many people didn’t even finish the book, they just had to wait for the plot to appear. Once Tea became an official asha the plot finally kicked in a bit more which really kept me hooked. Seeing Teas plan after whatever happened to her made me realize that maybe the author wanted to start book 1 with detail and explanation so book 2 Kansas got include more plat and less explaination. Other than thought the book really stands out to any other Witch book I have read. This one included different levels of magic and a way to show who is powerful then the people who are not. The way to see all this power is through a thing called an hourglass, this is something you wear around you neck which shows your heart. People who are normal have red hourglasses which make it easy to read emotions, people with weak magic have pastel colors and still is easy to read emotions, then we have normal asha which have darker color and it’s a little bit harder to read, and finally we have the dark asha their hourglasses are either grey or black. The book really does include stuff you wouldn’t expect to be a part of a book about witches, so I recommend this book to anyone who has the patience to wait for the plot and if they like fantasy.

Slice of My Life

Tuesday on February 6th I was walking home with my friend George and we were discussing if we thought Adnan killed Hae. I brought up the fact about another girl who was found like Hae and Don, I believe that Don had murdered Hae and this other girl. After discussing why I had thought that George agreed with me and talked about what if I was right. Talking about things yet to be solved fires by soul, but it’s only a slice of my life.

Thunderhead (Spoilers From Scythe)

I have just finished reading this Science fiction book by Neal Shusterman (click authors name to learn more about him and his works) titled Thunderhead. The book takes place a little bit after the end of the first book Scythe, which we saw Citra be robed and now is called Sycthe Anastasia. Scythe Anastasis has started a new way of gleaning, the people she chooses have a month to finish any loose ends of their life and at the end of the month they choose how they would like to be gleaned. Rowan still has immunity that Scythe Anastasia ‘accidentally’ given him and he is equipped with Scythe Goddard ring and has chosen to be called Scythe Lucifer. Rowan hadn’t been officially honored as a Sycthe, but he chooses to be a scythe that ends others scythes for doing wrong. After someone tries to kill Anastasia and fails scythes all around blame Rowan as the person guilty, but in reality they both are still very close despite his crimes. Follow scythe Anastasia as she begins a new life a scythes and tries to correct new order. Also follow Rowan has he ends the scythes that are too far gone to become good. Read this book to answer the questions of who is trying to kill Sycthe Anastasia? Will Rowan be caught?

I like this book because it takes off right after the first book and it doesn’t change any way of writing and still keeps the same details. This book is one of the books I have read that include a new way of living and keeping citizens safe which is pretty special. Thunderhead shows a different side of Sycthes and how reaping affects them which not a lot of books involving Sycthes do. Book series can also either turn out really well or boring and this book proves that this series is going to be one worth reading. The drama that goes on in Citra and Rowan’s new life after either becoming a scythe or not has brought new scythes to our attention. Ciara’s way of gleaning let’s her people say good bye to family and die the way the want. This new way of gleaning has made people question why she was one chosen to be a scythe and is she even following the scythedom. Rowan now be coming an unofficial scythe shows how scythes react when their own kind is gleaned of by another and how many scythes are biased in their gleanings. After Rowan became the apprentice of Scyth Goddard and seen how bad a scythe could truly he be he is trying his hardest to glean every scythe who gleans with a bias. Seeing how scythes act to different situations at the same time shows how all them might act high and mighty, but in reality the use there power to do wrong, at least most of the time. The third book, which will be called The Toll, won’t be coming out till next year, but I already know will be pre-ordering it. Overall the book keeps up to the high standards that the last one had. I recommend this book to anyone who loved the first book as much as I did.
